Jared Leto: biography
Jared Joseph Leto, an American actor and lead singer of the rock group “30 Seconds to Mars,” was born on December 26, 1971, in Bossier City, LA. Jared is not the only child – he has the elder brother Shannon. Jared’s creative abilities inherited from his mother Constance were seen since his early childhood. The woman did everything to support her sons. The father left the family when the boys were small, but he didn’t find happiness in his second marriage.
The man had two more children in the second family; soon, he died. The singer’s mother also married after the breakup. Jared and his brother were adopted by the stepfather, but this family did not last long either – the second husband divorced the boys’ mother.
Since early childhood, little Jared could show initiative when it was appropriate; he was a self-confident and developed child. He began to earn at the age of 12 – Jared Leto worked as a dishwasher in a cafeteria. In four years, he started working as a doorman. As a child, the actor was traveling a lot with his family, so Jared Leto’s biography is full of vivid memories of his childhood.
Moving was not new – Leto’s grandfather was in the Air Force. Having finished school, the would-be star began to study at The University of the Arts in Philadelphia where he chose painting as the major. A little later, Leto transferred to School of Visual Arts in New York. As a student, Jared created his first scenario and starred in the movie “Crying Joy.”
In 1992, Jared moved to Los Angeles to become an actor. By that time, the young man had had some experience in movies, yet he became popular after the series “My So-Called Life” where he played Jordan Catalano. After the debut, the actor was offered to star in strong full-length movies.
The real glory came when Leto and Alicia Silverstone played in the movie “Cool and the Crazy.” In 1995, Jared debuted on the big screen in an episodic role in the movie “How to Make an American Quilt.” In 1996, Leto starred in the movie “The Last of the High Kings” where Christina Ricci also played.
Next year, instead of Tom Cruise, the actor played in the semi-documental movie “Prefontaine.” It was the biographical movie about the legendary American sportsman Steve Prefontaine – “the Olympic hope” of the USA who tragically ended his life at the young age. Jared did well – Prefontaine’s sister could not hold back her tears and emotions as she was watching the movie.
Together with the famous actors George Clooney, Nick Nolte, and Sean Penn, Jared played in the movie “The Thin Red Line” in 1998. In the same year, the actor managed to receive the role in one of the most successful horror movies “Urban Legend.”
After the productive period in 1999, the actor appeared in the movies “Fight Club” and “Girl, Interrupted.” In a year, Jared Leto’s filmography contained the movies “Requiem for a Dream” and “American Psycho.” In the iconic movie “Requiem for a Dream,” the actor played a drug-addict who got through all stages of social and personal degradation. Together with the actor, Ellen Burstyn and the Oscar laureate Jennifer Connelly played.
In 2004, Jared starred in Oliver Stone’s historical epos “Alexander” as Hephaestion, Alexander the Great’s friend. Angelina Jolie, Anthony Hopkins, Colin Farrell played in the movie; it is successful all over the globe except for the USA where the movie was not accepted.
In the drama about John Lennon’s murderer “Chapter 27,” Leto tried to play his character Mark Chapman as truthfully as possible. It was not an easy task for the young man who was a vegetarian. Every night, Leto was drinking the mixture of cream ice and olive oil. Jared was always feeling outside his body – the actor who always used to be fit began to lose weight right after the project had been finished.
In 2009, Jared Leto took part in the movie “Mr. Nobody” that later won the award at the Venice Film Festival. After that, the best biographical role award and Golden Lion followed.
In 2013, Jared got the role of a transsexual in the movie “Dallas Buyers Club” which gave him the Academy Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role.
In 2016, Jared starred in David Ayer’s “Suicide Squad.” In the superhero action movie with comedy elements, Leto appeared as Joker, the unstable comics antihero. For this role, the actor had his hair dyed in acid green and got into the character so much that he continued playing tricks outside the stage. Jared Leto put a box with a rat to the actress Margot Robbie’s things and left a surprise for all actors – a dead pig.
“30 Seconds to Mars”
Jared Leto has left a significant mark in cinematography, but his interests are not limited to acting. Now, the actor is also known as the front man of the alternative group “30 Seconds to Mars” created by the elder brother in 1998. Jared Leto creates the songs; he is the singer and guitarist; his brother is a drummer. Tim Kelleher was a bass player; Braxton Olita played keyboards; Tomo Miličević is a violinist and guitarist.
The group never gives performances with playback – it is the group members’ main principle, so all “30 Seconds to Mars” concerts are live.
The group released the first album with a simple title “30 Seconds to Mars” in 2002. The premiere of the second album was in 2005. The third album went to trouble – because of the legal issues with the recording company, the album “This is War” was out only in 2009. It was sold successfully, and the fans became even more interested in the group. In this respect, the group started world touring immediately; the group played in St. Petersburg at Tuborg GreenFest.
Jared Leto’s personal life is characterized by rapid and minimalistic relationships. In 1995, the actor was fond of Kristi McDaniel who was playing in series and remains unpopular now. Later, the actor was seen with Tila Tequila, the scandalous TV personality, strip dancer, and adult movies star.
When Leto left her in the middle of the love affair, the Penthouse model Krista Ayne told journalists that she would place Jared in the third place among her 10 top boyfriends.
In 2003, Jared was seen walking with Britney Spears, but the singer only said she thought Jared was cute and they were not a couple.
Jared Leto and Lindsay Lohan’s affair began after shooting the movie “Chapter 27.” Their relationship lasted only for a few weeks, but according to different sources, if they met each other by chance after their breakup, they would come to each other and talk excitedly.
The friendship between Jared Leto and Paris Hilton was long and sensitive. When Paris was 16, they had insignificant relationships. In 2008, they were seen kissing passionately.
In 2005, the actor and Ashley Olsen began an affair. After their breakup, they tried to start everything anew but failed. In 1999, the actor was seen in the company of Sharon Stone, but neither party confirmed their relationship.
Long and serious relationship with the actress Cameron Diaz lasted from 1999 to 2003. The lovers looked beautiful together, and it was coming to the wedding. However, Cameron did not forgive Jared his “minor” affair with Paris Hilton about which she learned in newspapers.
In 2004-2005, the star had a thrilling affair with Scarlett Johansson.
In 2011, the actor fell in love with the famous model and actress Katharina Damm. In 2014, Jared was secretly dating the actress and model Amber Atherton.
Sometimes, the love affairs between Leto and Russian models Anne Vyalitsyna, Anastasia Krivosheeva, and Valery Kaufman were discussed.
