Jennifer Lopez: biography
At the beginning of her career, Jennifer Lopez was a dancer in the cinema. But she became famous as a singer. The girl dreamed to prove that she was talented in everything, including music, and she more than succeeded.
Jennifer was born on July 24, 1969, at Castle Hill in New York. For her very bright and atypical appearance for American women, the talented actress should thank her parents, Puerto Ricans by descent. Her father David worked at the insurance company at night. Then he got a good job in a computer company. Her mother Guadalupe was a housewife and brought up Jennifer and her sisters.
The family was not rich. Five people lived in a small apartment. A few years later they finally moved to a house. Guadeloupe brought up young ladies with a sense of taste and elegant manners. Girls were forbidden to walk for a long time in the street, and they were supposed to be at home at night. Their mother also tried to develop talents in her children.
When little Jennifer was 5 years old, she attended singing and dancing lessons, which helped her a lot in future. In order to protect her daughter from the negative influence, Jennifer’s mother sent the future actress and singer to a Catholic school, where she continued to sing in the choir. Moreover, Lopez participated in school plays and performed it with her sisters at home.
The young singer also achieved considerable success in sports: she attended gymnastics, performed at national competitions in running and was a member of the school softball team. Alas, her family did not see her as a show business star. Her mother believed that Jennifer should become a professional lawyer.
In her final year at school, Lopez successfully passed the casting into the low-budget film "My Little Girl". The film was not successful, but she gave the young actress a dream. Since that moment, Jennifer wanted to become a famous actress. Then she entered The College of Law but left her studies few semesters later. The girl tried to explain to her parents that she dreams of becoming an actress. Instead of support, she heard accusations of stupidity and the fact that not a single Latin American could become famous in Hollywood.
Jennifer even left home, renting a small apartment in Manhattan. The actress got a job in a law firm, and at night she worked as a dancer. During the same period, she took an active part in musicals, like "Jesus Christ Superstar" and "Oklahoma!" There the talented girl was noticed and invited to the choir "Golden Musicals of Broadway", which for almost half a year toured Europe. However, participation in it quite disappointed the singer: she was the only one in the whole choir who did not have a solo part.
The first films starring Jennifer Lopez were not very successful. Almost all of them were associated with the dance talents of the actress. Her first permanent work on television was the show "Bright Colors". One of the dancers couldn’t participate in the project and Lopez took her place. 2 years later, Jennifer announced her desire to become an actress and left the show.
In 1993, the actress received the first invitation to star in the movie "Lost in the wilderness," which was released for home viewing. Nevertheless, for the actress, this film was the next step on the way to her dream, and she finally moved away from music and dance projects, taking part in the drama for the first time.
Lopez made her debut in the film "My Family". For the role of the young Mary she even received her first nomination. But the next films with Jennifer were unsuccessful. Their box office fees only slightly exceeded the budget and did not interest the viewer.
The first real success of the actress was the film "Selena". Despite the fact that the film was shot by the same director who previously created "My Family", the actress had to go through a long and tedious casting. The screen version of the biography of the singer Selena allowed the actress to fully express her stage talents, which shocked critics who had previously been very skeptical of the actress.
High professionalism gave Jennifer the first nomination for the "Golden Globe", which became a real success for the beginning actress. The career of Lopez quickly developed, and her works were successful. For the film "Out of Sight", where the actress played along with the famous actor George Clooney, she received $ 1 million fee and the glory of the first Latin American actress, who got such a large sum of money.
With the development of her musical career, Jennifer often appeared in lyrical comedies. In films, she invariably played the main roles. Lopez became popular and all the projects with her participation were commercially successful. But in her filmography, there is also a place for drama films, such as "Angel Eyes", "An Unfinished Life" and many others.
Also, the tandem of the actress with Richard Gere in the melodrama "Shall We Dance?" and the main role in the fantastic thriller "The Cell" made Jennifer even more popular. The costumes for the film were created by the famous Japanese designer Eiko Ishioka, known for her collaboration with Björk and "Cirque du Soleil".
In 2015, the series "Shades of blue", starring Jennifer in the title role, was released. She played a single mother who works in the police and comes to the FBI to fight corruption from the inside. It was the first serious role of the actress.
In 1999, Jennifer released her first single "If You Had My Love", which instantly became a hit. The name of the actress and singer was at the top of the popular American charts "Billboard Hot 100". Only the singer Britney Spears achieved such a success with her debut composition.
Critics were waiting for the album of Lopez. They didn’t understand why she started the career of a singer. According to them, the unsuccessful album could have a negative impact on the acting career of Jennifer. Nevertheless, the album "On the 6" was successful. The critics were surprised and called Lopez as "a woman who has many talents."
Jennifer's music became so popular that by the end of 1999 it completely overshadowed her film career. Fans called the singer J. Lo. And she accepted this stage name, which also was the name of her second album "J.Lo", released in 2001. The album again took the top positions at the American charts.
Jennifer dedicated her fourth album "Rebirth" to a boy named Patterson. In 2004, she visited the children's hospital and met an 11-year-old boy Page, who was diagnosed with cancer. Despite all the efforts of doctors, he died in November of the same year. It shocked Lopez very much.
Jennifer's personal life is no less interesting than her career. For the first time, the singer married the Cuban waiter Ojani Noa in 1997. Their marriage was short and a year later the couple broke up. But the guy wanted to make money on the popularity of his ex-wife and in 2006 he tried to publish a book about their relationship. Jennifer tried to dissuade him, saying that it would violate their agreement. But Ojani did not listen, and the case went to trial. The judge told that Noa's book humiliated the singer and forbade the publication, and also obliged the unsuccessful writer to pay compensation in the amount of 545 thousand dollars.
In the period from 1999 to 2002, Lopez had relations with Sean Combs. Once they were arrested along with two others in connection with a shooting in a public place. Jennifer was also married to the dancer Cris Judd.
The next boyfriend of the singer was the actor Ben Affleck. The press called them "Bennifer". The lovers even planned a wedding for September 2003. But the day before the event, they canceled the ceremony without explanation.
In 2004, Lopez married the musician Marc Anthony and gave birth to their twins. But this relationship did not bring happiness to the singer. In 2011, she said that she plans to divorce because of "irreconcilable differences." Finally, they divorced only in 2014. Jennifer more than two years had relations with another man, the dancer Casper Smart. The couple broke up, but already in 2015, they began relations again. And in the press, there were rumors about the upcoming wedding.
On the 10th of March 2019 there appeared information, that Jennifer Lopez got engaged to ex-baseball player Alex Rodriguez in the Bahamas. The singer and actress will get married for the fourth time. On Sunday the couple posted their picture in the social networks. It was a picture of Jennifer's hand with the big engagement ring on her finger.
