Kate Moss: biography
Kate Moss is a British actress and supermodel. In 1990 and 2000 Kate Moss was considered to be the highest paid model.
Katherine Ann Moss was born in January 1974 in Croydon, one of the districts of London. Soon after the daughter's birth in the family of Moss there was born the second child, the son Nick. When Kate Moss was 13 years old, her parents divorced. Her mother, who had been working as a waitress, had hard times, she had to take care of two juvenile children. Kate had to help her mother, and at such an early age she earned additionally selling tickets for attractions and Pancake carnivals. A bit later she had been working as a seller in toy stores.
Once Linda Rosina Shepherd saved up some money and made Kate and Nick a gift: she took them to the Bahamas for a holiday. At that time Kate turned 14 years. She was an ordinary-looking, skinny teenager with a frown. Katherine didn't notice any interest on the part of the boys. But the owner of the little-known London "Storm" agency who was engaged in the selection of the models paid attention to such an awkward girl. Sarah Doukas who saw the teenager at the New York Kennedy Airport offered Kate to visit the agency and to try herself as a model at the casting when she arrived home. And Moss had come to the agency. The new, bright biography of Kate Moss had begun from this moment.
The teenager of medium height with a face with prominent cheekbones with an indifferent expression of eyes – at first sight Kate Moss didn't "fit" model parameters. Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, Claudia Schiffer and Nadja Auermann reigned on the podiums at this period of time. But Kate was destined to break a little old-fashioned and traditional understanding of model parameters. The girl appeared on the wave of the androgyny (blurring between sexes) which soon overwhelmed the world of haute couture.
At first, Kate Moss's career was going on hesitantly and intermittently. But the girl was happy even with such results, without understanding what in general she was doing in the world of fashion and beautiful people to whom she had never ranked herself. Kate had a set of complexes concerning not womanly figure and non-standard appearance. But nevertheless, then the parameters of Kate Moss completely corresponded to model business (in youth with a height of 170 cm the weight of the girl was 46 kilos). But Kate didn't even suspect that soon she would become a real supermodel, and the fees of Moss would be more solid, than the fees of Naomi Campbell.
The androgyny wave which intruded in the world of fashion was noticed in time by one of the trendsetters – Calvin Klein. The fashion designer was the first who began to popularize the unisex style for which absolutely flat and low Kate Moss who was embodying "sexlessness" was perfect. The girl became the face of the new Calvin Klein fragrance under the name "One" (CK One).
This aroma soon became one of the most sold smells soon, and Kate's face with a special faraway "wolf" look was recognized everywhere, the photos of Moss appeared on all advertising banners and on the covers of the magazines. The appeared trend on "heroin chic" (painful, thin and sexless models) brought a number of models of the same type as Kate Moss to the podiums. But Kate was the first, and it was worth a lot. Literally, a lot of money. Kate Moss's fees became extremely high.
The girl began to play in movies and TV series, but only cameo roles and without being mentioned in the credits. Kate Moss appeared in 35 pictures as herself. Moss received the first episodic role in the series "Inferno". In 1999 Kate Moss played a supporting role of the Maid Marian and Queen Marian in the short-length movie "Blackadder Back & Forth".
Kate Moss earned her first million dollars at the age of 20. In 2000 Kate Moss became one of the highest paid world models. Only one 4-year contract with Chanel brand brought to the girl 5 million dollars. According to "Forbes" magazine, Kate Moss earned 14,8 million dollars.
In 2005 Moss cooperated with Topshop brand. Kate debuted as a designer and created her own fashion clothing line. There were 14 collections of the brand in cooperation with Kate. This cooperation increased the capital of the model for 5,2 million dollars.
In 2006 the model gained recognition in the world of art. The British sculptor Marc Quinn had built the bronze sculpture representing the supermodel in a yoga position. The sculpture received the name of "Sphinx".
In 2007 Kate Moss again tried her hand as an actress and appeared in the short-length fantasy under the title "The 4 Dreams of Miss X" where she performed the leading role.
After Kate Moss had left Topshop brand, the supermodel was invited to participate in the fashion displays of many fashion houses among which there were - Louis Vuitton, Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci, Chanel, Dior, Versace, and others. According to "Forbes" version, the model became the owner of the second largest state, leaving the first place to top model Gisele Bündchen.
In spring of 2008, Kate Moss worked as a face of several world brands at once. The supermodel cooperated with Yves Saint Laurent, Roberto Cavalli, and Donna Karan. After Kate's cooperation with Coty brand, there was created and produced "Kate" fragrance. Inspired by the unusual beauty the British artist Marc Quinn again referred to the image of the model again and had built the golden statue "Siren" with Kate Moss's lines and features. This statue became the main exhibit of the British Museum.
In 2011 the supermodel created and started her own line of lipstick colors in cooperation with Rimmel brand with which Kate was working as a model since 2001. The line of lipsticks "Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick by Kate Moss" received positive feedback. By the words of consumers, it was not the well-known name of the supermodel that became the reason of positive reaction to the new lipstick. Lipstick was pleasant because of a number of unusual colors, bright and saturated, but at the same time not shouting and suitable for a daily make-up. Admirers of the brand consider a line "Rimmel. By Kate Moss" a pearl of the collection of the cosmetics company.
"Heroin chic" which was embodied by Kate Moss had led the model to the way of life which was so carelessly popularized by the gurus of the world of fashion. The model began to abuse alcohol and drugs in reality. In 1998 Kate Moss got to the private psychiatric clinic. According to the official version, Kate Moss was treated for exhaustion. Actually, as it became clear later, she was treated for alcohol abuse.
After Kate had left clinic she put on 4 kilos and looked rather healthy and fresh. Moss, as before, didn't observe any diets and with pleasure consumed chips, sausages, spaghetti, puddings, and fish.
But Moss hadn’t lasted for a long time: the healthy way of life soon had bored her. Kate was noticed using cocaine. The incredible scandal had burst out. Fashion houses terminated the contracts which were concluded with the model. Moss came down at the narcological clinic of Arizona to recover from her vicious addiction. After rehabilitation, her star colleagues among which there were Stella McCartney and Elton John stood up for Kate. The girl again appeared on the covers of tabloids and at the fashion parades. But after the treatment of the supermodel, one of the chief fashion designers who had presented the model to the world ceased cooperation with Kate. It was Calvin Klein.
In October 2015 there was a new scandal. Paparazzi capture Kate Moss at the party organized by model’s Rita Ora. At this party, Kate has appeared with characteristic spots of white powder on her black dress. Mass media again started talking that Kate had returned to the former lifestyle.
In contrast with her model career, personal life of Kate Moss isn't so brilliant. At the beginning of her model job, the girl for a couple of years had been living with the photographer Mario Sorrenti with whom Kate was also connected also by professional relations. But after having acquainted with Johnny Depp Kate and Mario broke up. This love affair which began between them was passing in a narcotic and alcoholic dope. Depp didn't take part in the movies during this period and consumed heroin. This love affair quickly came to an end and Johnny left to Vanessa Paradis who helped the actor to recover.
After parting with Depp Kate Moss met other gentlemen. Mass media mention Antony Langdon, Billy Zane, and Jack Nicholson. In 2002 Kate Moss gave birth to the daughter Lila Grace from the publisher and editor Jefferson Hack. But this union had quickly broken up too.
In 2005 Kate Moss began a loud and scandalous love affair with the musician Pete Doherty. Their relations were followed by rough parties and problems with alcohol and drugs. Three years had passed in constant noisy quarrels and reconciliations which took place in front of paparazzi. Eventually, this expressive and emotional relationship had come to an end with not less bright parting. Subsequently, Pete devoted to Kate a number of lyrical compositions.
Relationship with the musician of Anglo-American indie-rock duet of "The Kills" Jamie Hince also hadn't lasted for long. In 2007 the model and the musician got acquainted, and in 2011 the star couple got married. And soon the guitarist left Kate for model Jessica Stam.
Today the tabloids again began to talk about Kate Moss because of her new love affair. The 41-year model has a love affair with the 28-year-old descendant of Otto von Bismarck, a photographer, and Count Nikolai.
Despite the media popularity, it's probably that Kate Moss doesn't have an account on Instagram. The service doesn't show any verified pages with her name, and the largest account at the request of "Kate Moss" honestly says in the description that it is a fan page where the latest and rare photos of the model, according to her admirers, are published.
